getting out of the car

Having toddler aged kiddos is an absolute blast and fun. That's why so many people say to me "oh I miss that age!"

BUT

Do they remember everything, like getting the kids in and out of the car?

Here's what I do numerous times a day with the 4-year-old and the 2-year-old.

Pull into the driveway.
Put the car in park.
Hear dogs bark loudly. Think of how much that it must annoy the neighbors.
Open TJ's door and sometimes unbuckle him, sometimes he does it himself. Tell him to gather up his stuff. Tell him again at least once more.
Go around to other side, unbuckle Julia, pick her up. Look at the floor full of toys, books, french fries, cups and think I need to clean that out. I'll come back out later and clean it. Never do.
Open the passenger side door. Grab whatever bags, packages, groceries, etc from wherever we are returning from. Promise to myself I will go back later and get the rest. Never do.
Walk toward the door.
Unlock the door.
Watch The Cat That Doesn't Go Outside run out the door past me.
Yell PLACE to the dogs about 20 times, louder and louder each time until they settle down into their places.
Sometimes they barrel out and knock into one or both of the kids. If that's the case, console sad kid.
If the dogs happened to be listening to me that day, give them the Free command and then yell or use my really low intimidating voice Get in your pen, which they do. Georgia does a quick lap around the yard first.
Get inside. Dump bags. Promise to put them away in a few minutes. Never do.
Repeat all on the next arrival home.
